COAST PROTECTION ACT 1949

NOTICE OF PROPOSED COASTAL PROTECTION WORK

South Tyneside Council, acting in their capacity as Coastal Protection Authority, hereby gives notice under section 5(1) of the above Act that it proposes to carry out coastal protection works as described herein at Littlehaven, South Shields. The work will consist of:

• The demolition of 300m of the existing sea wall and construction of a newly aligned concrete stepped wall.

• The refurbishment of 200m of the existing southern sea wall

• Associated promenade improvement works, car park construction, landscaping and drainage works.

The estimated cost of the work is between £4million and £5.25 million.

Details of the proposed work can be inspected by appointment between 10:00am and 4.00pm, Monday to Friday, at Town Hall and Civic Offices, Westoe Road, South Shields, Tyne and Wear NE33 2RL by contacting (0191) 424 7907.

Any person may no later than 28 days after publication serve a notice of objection to the proposal on the Secretary of State and on the Council.

Any such notice must contain a statement of the grounds of objection and must be delivered by hand or sent by pre-paid post to the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Flood Management, Nobel House, 17 Smith Square, London SW1P 3JR and to the Chief Executive, South Tyneside Council, Westoe Road, South Shields, Tyne and Wear NE33 2RL .
