FOREST CENTRAL NORTH (NEWBRIDGE; CADNAM GREEN; MANOR FARM AND NEIGHBOURING DISPERSED FARMS; CANTERTON; WARREN’S HOUSE AND PARK; BROOK, BROOK HILL, STOCKS CROSS AND BRAMSHAW; BRAMSHAW CHURCH AND DISPERSED AGRICULTURAL SETTLEMENT; PENN COMMON AND FURZLEY; FOREST ENCROACHMENT; CADNAM) AND SOUTH (MINSTEAD; EMERY DOWN; NEWTOWN; MANOR PARK AND ASSOCIATED FARMS; 19TH CENTURY HEATHLAND PLANTATION ENCROACHMENT CONTAINING RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT; STONEY CROSS)
CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under the provisions of the Act that New Forest National Park Authority (“the Authority”) has determined that the area described in the Schedule to this Notice is an area of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance its character or appearance. As a result, on 24 January 2008, the Authority designated the area as a “conservation area”.

The principal effects of the designation of this area as a conservation area are as follows:

1. The Authority is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.

2. Consent must be obtained from the Authority for the demolition of any building in the area.

3. Additional publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.

4. In carrying out any functions under the planning acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Authority and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

5. Six weeks’ notice must be given to the Authority before works are carried out to any tree in the area.

Schedule

This Area has been divided into two parts: Forest Central North and Forest Central South.

Forest Central North

The boundaries are:

In a clockwise direction, starting at Wittensford Bridge on the B3079, south west following the boundary with Bignall Wood to land including Glen Cottage and the Old Sir Walter Tyrrell, Brook, crossing the road west to follow the boundary between the fields and Blackthorn Copse north to the Minstead Parish boundary. Then following the boundary between Brook Common and the fields, land including buildings at Lush’s and including the road to join the B3078. West along the north side of the B3078 to the start of Brook Wood, then following the boundary between the fields and Brook Wood north to Butchers Corner. East, south of the road, crossing the road opposite and including the land including 1 and 2 Butchers Corner. Then following the north side of the road north east to land including Holdfast Cottage. Crossing the road and then north to include land including Rowhill Farm, Hollybank Cottage and the field south of The Paddock. Crossing the road again at the end of Row Hill and then south and west and north west following the boundary between the fields and Bramshaw Wood to land including Vicarage Cottage Wych Green. Then following the east and north boundary of Cove Copse Farm and east along the southern edge of the road to the track, crossing the road and then north to the Parish boundary to include land including Cove Cottage and Foresters Cottage. Then following the Parish boundary south east and north east of the land of Dazel Wood. East following the boundary between the fields and Dazel Wood and Closed Copse to land including Paddock Cottage. Continuing east following the boundary between the fields and Plaitford Common and Canada Common to Moor Bridge. Continuing across the track, south east, south of Moor Bridge Farm, east, around but excluding Drifthole Cottage. North following the road and the small area of land to the west. East, south of Sedgmoor Farm to the Copythorne Parish boundary then south east following the boundary with, but excluding, Swallowfield Cottage and Furzley Cottage, crossing Blackfield Road to the south side and running south west along the road to include the land including Furzley Farm. South following the boundary between the fields and Half Moon Common, joining the Bramshaw Parish boundary at Half Moon Farm. Crossing the parish boundary west to include land including South View, Furzley Road. East along the south side of the road and then south, south west following the boundary between the west side of the road and Furzley Common, turning south east and including land including Moonhills and Honeysuckle Cottage. Continuing south and east around the boundary between fields and woodland and Canada Common and Half Moon Common, then Newbridge Inclosure to join and run along the south side of the track which meets Newbridge Road. At Newbridge Road crossing under the M27 on the east side of the road and then running south west along the north side of Romsey Road to the junction with Newbridge Road. North west to include land including Le Chanteclerc and Old Pollards Moor, then north west to the north side of the M27. West along the north boundary of the M27 to Cadnam Lane. South under the M27 including Cadnam Lane and then east along the south boundary of the M27 to Cadnam River, south east to include land including St Jacques Cottage, around and including the field to the west and to include land including The Old Forge, Cadnam Congregational Church, Poona Cottage and Poona Lodge to meet Romsey Road. Along west side of Romsey Road to the roundabout, west along the north side of the A31 between the roundabouts. At the second roundabout along the south boundary of the M27 to join the west side of Cadnam Road. Under the M27 and west along the north boundary of the M27. At the roundabout west to include the land including Cadnam Lodge, along Cadnam River, up to and including land including The Cottage, Evergreen Cottage and Wittenford House. Then continuing west along Cadnam River to Wittenford Bridge.

Forest Central South

The boundaries are:

In a clockwise direction, starting at Emery Down at land including paths to, and Christ Church, land including School House and land including the New Forest Inn, bounded by Lyndhurst Hill to the south. All land including properties to the west of Emery Down from Hollow Dene Lodge to Holly Lodge bounded by James’ Hill, crossing the road north of Holly Lodge and then following the east side of the road west to the first junction north, crossing that junction and following the boundary of Acres Down Inclosure to include properties and fields to the east., returning to the Emery Down Road opposite Malwood Walk House. North west along the west side of the Emery Down Road to the A31 then east along the south side of the A31 to include the land and buildings of Yew Tree Farm, the petrol station and the restaurant. Continuing east to the land including Cartref, then turning south and east along the northern field (not road) boundaries and land including Yew Tree House, Yew Tree Cottage and Garden Cottage. South west to include land including Stoney Cross Lodge and then north continuing to follow the land boundaries around the sports ground, land including Castle Malwood, continuing east following the south of the A31 around Castle Malwood, returning south west at the second junction with the A31, and following and including the road south, bounded by Running Hill, to the land including Hungerford Cottage at Seaman’s Corner. Then south east along the field boundaries adjoining Hardus Green to include land including Suters Cottage, Perry Dees and Perry Farm at London Minstead. Crossing the road and continuing south around field boundaries adjoining Hazel Hill to include the land of the cricket ground at Football Green. Crossing the road and continuing south along the south side of the road to the junction. East to include land including Golden Croft on Football Green to Upcerne on Lyndhurst Road, there crossing Lyndhurst Road to continue south following field boundaries adjoining Furzey Lawn Inclosure up to and including land including Mill Lane Farm and The Kennels. South along the west of the A337 to land including Furzey Lawn, Blackwater, then south west along the eastern side of the road and fields adjoining Truslers Wood joining and continuing south along the straight section of the Minstead Parish boundary at the south of the wood. Continuing south and south west along the parish boundary, but deviating south to bound but not include Northerwood Inclosure and include Silver Street and the land including Northerwood Lodge. Crossing the Emery Down Road at the Lodge and including land adjoining Lyndhurst Hill, returning to the Church path.
