The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs has made a Statutory Rule entitled "The Climate Change (2040 Emissions Target) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2024 ", (S.R. 2024 No. 214), which comes into operation on 12th December 2024.

This Rule modifies the existing legislation "The Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland ) 2022 to set a percentage target of at least 77% for the emission reduction year 2040.
