Whereas by the Civil Service Order in Council 1995 (hereinafter referred to as “the principal Order”) provision was made relating to the appointment of persons to situations in Her Majesty’s Home Civil Service and for regulating the conduct of Her Majesty’s Home Civil Service and the conditions of service therein:   And whereas it is expedient to make further provision for Her Majesty’s Home Civil Service in relation to the matters aforesaid:   Now, therefore, Her Majesty is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:   1. Article 6 of the principal Order shall be amended by the insertion, before the semi-colon at the end of paragraph (a) of Article 6(1), of the words “, or by the need to relieve long-term unemployment”.   2. Schedule 1 to the principal Order shall be amended by the deletion of the words “Director of Finance and Corporate Services, Royal Mint”. Citation etc.   3.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Civil Service (Amendment) Order in Council 1998 and shall come into force forthwith. (2) The Interpretation Act 1978( a ) shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament. N. H. Nicholls ( a ) 1978 c. 30.

Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Civil Service Order in Council 1995 so as to include in the appointments which the Commissioners may except under Article 6 an appointment where the total period of service does not exceed five years and the appointment is justified by the need to relieve long-term unemployment, and to delete from Schedule 1 the situation of Director of Finance and Corporate Services of the Royal Mint.
