The Council of the Borough of North Tyneside
HIGHWAYS ACT 1980, SECTION 116
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO APPLY TO STOP UP THE HIGHWAY AT BENTON WAY, WALLSEND
NOTICE is hereby given that the Council of the Borough of North Tyneside as Highway Authority intends to apply to the North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court sitting at The Court House, Tynemouth Road, North Shields, Tyne and Wear NE30 1AG on Friday 16th August 2013, at 9.45am, for an Order under section 116 of the Highways Act 1980 authorising the stopping-up of the highway described below on the grounds that it is unnecessary.
The section of Highway to be stopped up is the footway and carriageway known as Benton Way, Wallsend running from the southern edge of its junction with Gainers Terrace and running south easterly for approximately 168 metres.
The highway acted as a direct link between the former Swan Hunter’s site and a now defunct ferry service across the river. The link is neither used nor required as neither of these enterprises are still in operation and it does not provide an onward link to any other section of the highway network.
The above highway to be stopped up is shown by grey hatching and edged by a bold black line on the plan deposited at; North Tyneside Council offices at Quadrant, Cobalt Business Park, North Tyneside NE27 0BY and may be inspected there, free of charge between the hours of 9.00 am and 4.30 pm on Mondays to Fridays inclusive.
