PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 SECTIONS 69 AND 70
STONE CONSERVATION AREA
NOTICE IS GIVEN under the provisions of the 1990 Act that Aylesbury Vale District Council (“the Council”) has determined that the area described in the Schedule to this Notice is an area of special architectural or historic interest, and that it is desirable to preserve or enhance its character or appearance. It has accordingly designated this area as a ‘Conservation Area’ (“CA”).
A plan defining the boundaries of the CA, together with the relevant report to the Council’s Cabinet are available for inspection at the District Council Offices at The Gateway, Gatehouse Way, Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire from 8.45am to 5.15pm Monday to Wednesday, 9.45am to 5.15pm Thursdays and 8.45am to 4.45pm on Fridays.
The principal effects of the designation are:
- a Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building (save for excepted buildings) in the CA.
- b Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the CA.
- c In carrying out any functions under the planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the CA.
- d it becomes an offence (subject to certain exceptions) to cut down, top, lop, uproot or wilfully damage any tree in the CA except where consent has been given by the Council;
- e controls over advertisements are extended;
- f permitted development rights are more restricted in the CA.

1,11, 12, 17,, Vicarage Farmhouse, Great Barn and Little Barn, 22, The Malt House, St. John the Baptist’s Church all on Church Way; Willow Barn, The Hawthorns, Manor Farmhouse on Bishopstone Road;, 1 and 3, Eythrope Road and 62 Oxford Road.
The CA boundary
The CA boundary runs along the western boundary of 1, Church Way, turns eastwards along its southern boundary. It crosses the road splay at the entrance to and runs along the eastern frontage boundaries of 5, 6 and 9, Church Way. It turns westwards and runs along the northern, western and southern boundaries of 11 and 12, Church Way. It then follows the line of the eastern boundary of 14 and 15 Church Way before turning eastwards and following the northern western and southern boundaries of 17, Church Way. It crosses Church Way and follows the line of the southern boundary of Great and Little Barn, Church Way. It follows the eastern boundary to this property for a short distance before turning east and following the southern boundaries of The Malt House and Willow Barn. It crosses Bishopstone Road and follows the line of the hedge along the north-eastern side of the road, crossing Manor Farm Close, until it reaches Manor Farmhouse. It then turns north-eastwards following the south-eastern and north-eastern boundary of Manor Farmhouse. The boundary then crosses Oxford Road to the eastern corner of the south-eastern boundary at the front of 56, Oxford Road. The CA boundary turns westwards and runs along the south-eastern boundaries of 56, 58 and 60, Oxford Road and 2, Eythrope Road. The boundary then turns north-westwards and runs along the south-western frontage boundaries of 2, 4, 6 and 8, Eythrope Road. It then turns south-westwards crosses Eythrope Road and runs along the north-western boundary of 1 and 3, Eythrope Road and 62, Oxford Road. Turning south-eastwards it follows the south-western boundary of 62, Oxford Road. Turning south-westwards the boundary runs along the kerb of Oxford Road the road splay where it crosses the Oxford road to the western most corner of 3, Church Way. It turns north-eastwards and follow the north-western boundaries of 3 and 2 Church Way to the point where it joins the western boundary of 1, Church Way.
