PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 (SECTION 69)

NEWNHAM CONSERVATION AREA

Notice is hereby given that on 24th April 2008, North Hertfordshire District Council adopted a first review of Newnham Conservation Area (originally designated on 8th June 1970). As a result of boundary changes, some areas have been added whilst other areas have been removed from the conservation area.

The changes are in accordance with Section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, and are to ensure that Newnham Conservation Area remains an area of special architectural or historic interest.

The principal effects of the conservation area designation are as follows:

  • 1 The Council is under a duty to prepare proposals to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the area.
  • 2 Consent must be obtained from the Council for the substantial or total demolition of any unlisted building (exceeding 115 cubic metres) in the area.
  • 3 Six week’s notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any trees in the area.
  • 4 Special publicity must be given to planning applications for development in the area.
  • 5 In carrying out any functions under the Planning Acts (and, in particular, in determining applications for planning permission and listed building consent), the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the area.

For further information regarding Newnham Conservation Area, please contact North Hertfordshire District Council on 01462 474000 and ask to speak to the Conservation Team.
