THE A249 TRUNK ROAD (IWADE BYPASS TO QUEENBOROUGH IMPROVEMENT) (PROHIBITION OF CERTAIN CLASSES OF TRAFFIC AND PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2006

The Secretary of State for Transport hereby gives notice that he made the above named Orders under sections 1(1), 2(1) and (2), 4(1), 82(2), 83(1), 84(1)(a) and (2) and 122a of, and paragraph 27(1) of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on 10 May 2006, coming into operation on the date when the new A249 Trunk Road between the Iwade Bypass and Queenborough on the Isle of Sheppey, in the borough of Swale, in the county of Kent is opened to traffic. The effect of the Orders is: 1. To prohibit certain traffic turning movements at the junction of the new Trunk Road and Main Road (B2007), Queenborough, as follows: (1) Right turn into Main Road (B2007) from the southbound carriageway of the new Trunk Road, (2) Right turn into Main Road (B2007) from the northbound carriageway of the new Trunk Road; (3) Left turn into the new Trunk Road from the westbound carriageway of Main Road (B2007). 2. To revoke the 30 mph speed restriction automatically imposed by the installation of street lighting and to impose a speed restriction of 50 mph on the new A249 Trunk Road from the southside of the new roundabout at Neatscourt, approximately 570 metres south of the new junction with Main Road (B2007), to a point approximately 500 metres north of the said junction, in both directions, a distance of approximately 1.07 kilometres (0.67 miles). 3. To prohibit pedal cycles, horses ridden by a person, vehicles drawn by animals, motor cycles under 50cc and pedestrians on the new Trunk Road, in both directions, from the nosings of the northbound and southbound slip roads approximately 400 metres and 690 metres respectively south of Kingsferry Interchange roundabout to a point where the Trunk Road meets the new Cowstead roundabout (south) on the Isle of Sheppey. Copies of the made Orders, statements explaining why the Secretary of State made the Order and plans illustrating the effects of the Orders may be inspected during normal office hours at: The Highways Agency, Room 2C, Federated House, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1SZ. Iwade Post Office, 16-18 Ferry Road, Iwade, Kent. They may also be obtained by application to the Highways Agency, Major Projects South, Room 2C, Federated House, London Road, Dorking, Surrey RH4 1SZ, quoting Ref HA/041/029/000168. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Orders or of any provision contained therein on the ground that it is not within the powers of the above Act or that any requirement of that Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with, may, within 6 weeks from 24 May 2006, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
