DESIGNATION OF SAINT GEORGES HEAVILY STOCKPORT CONSERVATION AREA
Notice is hereby given under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act, section 69, that the Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (“the Council”) has with effect from 31 October 2005, designated Saint Georges Heavily Stockport area as Conservation Area. The effect of the designation is that: 1. In exercising certain functions including the determination of planning applications, special attention will be paid to desirability of preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the conservation area. Planning applications for development, which will affect the character or appearance of the conservation area will be advertised and representation made thereon taken into account. 2. Anyone proposing to cut down, top or lop any tree in the area, subject to certain exceptions, are required to give the local planning authority 6 weeks prior notice of the works, otherwise they may be guilty of an offence. 3. Subject to certain exceptions, conservation area consent is required for the demolition of any building in the conservation area. 4. Planning permission is required for certain types of development that are elsewhere classified as permitted development by the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995. 5. Advertisement consent is required for the display of certain advertisements, which elsewhere may be displayed without express consent. 6. The local planning authority are now under a duty to formulate and publish proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the area.
