WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER
Notice is hereby given that an application is being made to the Environment Agency (South West Region) by Thames Water Utilities Ltd, Clearwater Court, Vastern Road, Reading, Berkshire RG1 8DB, to renew a licence (current licence number 13/43/024/G/118) to abstract water from underground strata (upper and middle chalk) at Tidworth in the parishes of North Tidworth and South Tedworth in the counties of Wiltshire and Hampshire. The water will be abstracted from the three existing boreholes and one well respectively at National Grid Refs SU 2361 4870, SU 2336 4874, SU 2340 4857 and SU 2215 4932. The application is to renew the licence at the existing rates which are: 12,000 cubic metres per day and 3,294,000 cubic metres per year (equivalent to an average of 9,000 cubic metres per day). The water will be used as now for public water supply in and around the Tidworth area. There will also be a minor change to the existing licence to allow for a proposed new bulk water supply to Wessex Water to provide supply in substitution for the existing Wessex Water licensed abstraction at Leckford Bridge. The volume of this bulk water supply will be in aggregate with the Leckford Bridge licence volume such that there will be no increase in abstraction volume from the two sources in combination. There will be no increase in the amount of water that is licensed for abstraction. The discharge of water to the environment after use for supply to Wessex Water under the proposed new bulk supply provision will be through the existing infrastructure currently in place for the Leckford Bridge source. A copy of the application and of any map, plan or other document submitted with it, may be inspected, free of charge, at North Tidworth Post Office, Tidworth, Wiltshire SP9 7LD, at all reasonable hours during the period beginning on Friday 2 December 2005 and ending on Monday 9 January 2006. Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to S Greenfield, Environment Agency—South West Region, Manley House, Kestrel Way, Sowton, Exeter, Devon EX2 7LQ, before the end of the said period. W Bottcher, on behalf of Thames Water Utilities Ltd 2 December 2005.
