NOTICE OF APPLICATIONS TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that Dales Water Services Ltd, Witherick Lane, Melmerby, Ripon, North Yorkshire HG4 5JB, is applying to the Environment Agency on behalf of G.W.P. Stirke and Son, Bowdyke Lodge Farm, Carlton Miniott, Thirsk, North Yorkshire YO7 4NJ, for a licence to abstract the following quantities of water from a borehole in the Sherwood Sandstone at National Grid Ref SE 397 808, in the parish of Carlton Miniott, Hambleton district of North Yorkshire: 55 cubic metres per hour, 1,100 cubic metres per day and 28,000 cubic metres per year, between April and September each year. The water will be used for spray irrigation direct from the borehole and for stream augmentation for subsequent abstraction for spray irrigation. Notice is further given that application is also made to abstract the following quantities of water from an unnamed tributary of the River Wiske at National Grid Ref SE 4020 8203, in the parish of Sand Hutton and from Thacker Beck at National Grid Ref SE 4137 7849, in the parish of Topcliffe, both parishes are in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire: 55 cubic metres per hour, 1,100 cubic metres per day, 10,000 cubic metres per year, between April and September each year. The water is required for spray irrigation of arable crops at Bowdyke Lodge Farm, Carlton Miniott and Thistle Hill Farm, Topcliffe, Thirsk. The abstraction will be supported at all times by the simulteneous discharge of an identical volume of water from the above borehole, these applications seek to replace two exising licences that are time limited to expire on 30 September 2005 and include a reduction in the annual quantities authorised to be abstracted. A copy of the applications and any map, plans or other documents submitted with them may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at the above address, between 22 July 2005 and 22 August 2005.
