NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that J. W. Greaves & Sons Limited of Llechwedd Slate Mines, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, North Wales LL41 3NB is applying to the Environment Agency Wales for a licence to abstract water from:

1. Llyn Newydd at Map Ref SH 721964940 and Llyn Bowydd at Map Ref SH 7231646700. The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates: 1,620 cubic metres per hour, 38,880 cubic metres per day, 7,200,000 cubic metres per year. The water will be used for hydro-electric generation and will be discharged to the header pond at Map Ref SH 7071946996.
2. Llynnau Barlwyd at SH 7096948281, a number of streams crossing the leat from Llynnau Barlwyd to the header pond at Map Ref SH 7071946996 and the discharge from the abstraction detailed above (1). The proposal is to abstract at the following rates: 1,440 cubic metres per hour, 34,560 cubic metres per day, 11,780,000 cubic metres per year. The water will be used for hydro-electric generation and will be discharged to Afon Barlwyd at Map Ref SH 6970046880.

Upon the satisfactory granting of a licence for the above quantities, the Company will agree to the revocation of its existing licences numbered 23/65/1/6, 23/65/1/14 and 23/65/1/19 in respect of its current abstraction at lower rates from the same sources for hydro-electric generation purposes.
A copy of the application and any map, plans and other documents submitted with it may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at the Main Offices, Plaswaenydd, Llechwedd Slate Mines, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd LL41 3NB between 28 March 2005 and 28 April 2005.
Any person wishing to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Environment Agency Wales, Chester Road, Buckley, Flintshire CH7 5AJ, before the end of the said period, quoting the name of the applicant.
