NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR AND TO VARY A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that Florence Sowerby, of Cocked Hat Farm, Topcliffe Road, Thirsk, North Yorkshire YO7 3HF, is applying to the Environment Agency for a licence to abstract water from the Thacker Beck between National Grid Ref SE 4109 7916 and SE 4137 7856 at Thirsk in the Parish of Topcliffe, Hambleton District of North Yokshire. The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates: 37 cubic metres per hour, 770 cubic metres per day, 43,145 cubic metres between April and October each year. The water will be used for spray irrigation. The abstraction will be supported at all times by the simultaneous discharge into Thacker Beck of an identical volume of water from the borehole detailed below. This application seeks to replace Licence Serial No 2/27/23/551 which expires on 31 October 2004. Notice is also given that application is being made to vary licence serial No 2/27/23/531 which authorises the abstraction of water from a borehole in the Sherwood Sandstone at National Grid Ref SE 4223 8054 for spray irrigation, stream augmentation and agricultural purposes within the same parish and district. The variation being applied for seeks to renew the quantities currently authorised to be abstracted for spray irrigation and stream augmentation which expire on 31 October 2004. No changes to the quantities are proposed which will remain at 37 cubic metres per hour, 770 cubic metres per day, 43,145 cubic metres between April and October each year. The quantities currently authorised for general agricultural, purposes will also remain unchanged. A copy of the application and any map, plans and other documents submitted with it may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at the above address between 9 July 2004 and 9 August 2004.
