THE M60 MOTORWAY (JUNCTIONS 4 TO 9, WIDENING) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2004

Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport has made an Order on the M60 Motorway in the City of Manchester and the Borough of Trafford to enable major motorway construction works to be carried out in safety. The works are expected to commence on Friday 16 April 2004, and are not expected to be completed until approximately May 2006. The effect of the Order will be as follows: 1. to prohibit all traffic from various lengths of both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 4 and 9 as specified in Part I of the Schedule to this notice; 2. to prohibit all traffic from a number of new link roads yet to be constructed which will run adjacent to both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 6 and 7 as specified in Part II of the Schedule to this notice; 3. to prohibit all traffic from a number of slip roads as specified in Part III of the Schedule to this notice, leading to and from the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 7 and 8, and to and from the link roads running adjacent to both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 7 and 8; 4. to prohibit all traffic from a number of new slip roads yet to be constructed as specified in Part III of the Schedule to this notice, which will lead to and from the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 6 and 7, to and from the link roads running adjacent to both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 7 and 8, and to and from the new link roads yet to be constructed which will run adjacent to both the clockwise and anticlockwise carriageways of the M60 Motorway between Junctions 6 and 7. The closures are expected to take place overnight at various times throughout the works period as follows: (i) between 2000 hours and 0530 hours the following day Monday to Thursday inclusive; (ii) between 2000 hours on Friday and 0800 hours on Saturday; (iii) between 2000 hours on Saturday and 0800 hours on Sunday; and (iv) between 2000 hours on Sunday and 0530 hours on Monday. Suitably signed alternative routes will be in operation when the closures take place. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as will be indicated by traffic signs, and will not apply to vehicles being used for emergency purposes by the police, fire brigade or ambulance services or vehicles being used in connection with the works. The order will come into force on 15 April 2004, and will continue in force until the works have been completed. Schedule Part I Lengths of main carriageway to be closed At various times throughout the works period various sections of the following lengths of main carriageway will be closed. The clockwise carriageway of the M60 between Junctions 4 and 9 for a distance of 12.2 kilometres. The anticlockwise carriageway of the M60 between Junctions 9 and 4 for a distance of 12.2 kilometres. Part II New link roads to be closed New link road yet to be constructed which will run adjacent to M60 clockwise carriageway from Junction 6 to Junction 7. New link road yet to be constructed which will run adjacent to M60 anticlockwise carriageway from Junction 7 to Junction 6. Part III Slip roads and new slip roads to be closed Entry slip road leading from the A56 (Chester Road), to the link road running adjacent to the M60 clockwise carriageway from Junction 7 to Junction 8. Exit slip road leading from the link road running adjacent to the M60 anticlockwise carriageway from Junction 8 to Junction 7, to the A56 (Chester Road). Yet to be constructed entry slip road leading from the link road running adjacent to M60 clockwise carriageway from Junction 7 to Junction 8, to the M60 clockwise carriageway at Junction 8. Yet to be constructed exit slip road leading from the M60 anticlockwise carriageway at Junction 8, to the link road running adjacent to the M60 anticlockwise carriageway from Junction 8 to Junction 7. Yet to be constructed exit slip road which will lead from the yet to be constructed link road which will run adjacent to the M60 clockwise carriageway from Junction 6 to Junction 7, to the A56 (Chester Road). Yet to be constructed entry slip road which will lead from the A56 (Chester Road), to the yet to be constructed link road which will run adjacent to the M60 anticlockwise carriageway from Junction 7 to Junction 6.
