CITY OF SHEFFIELD (INNER RELIEF ROAD, STAGE 2) (A61 CLASSIFIED ROAD) COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2003
THE HIGHWAYS ACT 1980
THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 AND THE ACQUISITION OF LAND ACT 1981
1. Notice is hereby given that the Secretary of State for Transport in exercise of
his powers under the above Acts, on 31 day of March 2004 confirmed with modifications
‘The City of Sheffield (Inner Relief Road—Stage 2) (A61 Classified Road) Compulsory
Purchase Order 2003’ submitted by the Sheffield City Council.
2. The Order as confirmed provides for the purchase for the purposes of:
(1) The construction and improvement of the A61 Classified Road, which is to be known
as Stage 2 of the Inner Relief Road, comprising:
(i) the improvement of the A61 Shalesmoor between the new Penistone Road/Hoyle Street
roundabout south eastwards to its junction with the A61 Moorfields;
(ii) the improvement of the A61 Moorfields between its junction with the A61 Shalesmoor
south eastwards to its junction with the A61 Gibraltar Street;
(iii) the improvement of the A61 Gibraltar Street between its junction with the A61
Moorfields eastwards to a point 18 metres east of its junction with Copper Street;
(iv) the construction of a highway between its junction with the A61 Gibraltar Street,
at a point 18 metres east of its junction with Copper Street, north eastwards to its
junction with the A61 Corporation Street 53 metres south west of its junction with
Alma Street;
(v) the improvement of the A61 Corporation Street between a point 53 metres south
west of its junction with Alma Street north eastwards to its junction with the A61
Bridgehouses; and
(vi) the construction of a highway between its junction with the A61 Corporation
Street eastwards to its junctions with the A61 Cutlers Gate and the A6109 Savile Street;
all in the District of Sheffield in the County of South Yorkshire.
(2) The construction of other highways and the improvement of existing highways in
the vicinity of the route of the above mentioned classified road construction and
improvement in pursuance of ‘The City of Sheffield (Inner Relief Road—Stage 2) (A61
Classified Road) Side Roads and Other Works Order 2003’;
(3) The provision of new means of access to premises in pursuance of ‘The City of
Sheffield (Inner Relief Road—Stage 2) (A61 Classified Road) Side Roads and Other Works
Order 2003’;
(4) Use by the acquiring authority in connection with the construction and improvement
of highways and the provision of new means of access to premises as aforesaid;
(5) mitigating the adverse effect which the existence or use of certain of the highways
proposed to be constructed or improved as mentioned in the Sub-Articles of Article
1 of this Order will have on the surroundings thereof; and
(6) The provision of off-street parking places, including means of access thereto
and therefrom and other facilities necessary to their use, by the acquiring authority;
of the land and the new rights described in the Schedule hereto.
3. A copy of the Order as confirmed by the Secretary of State for Transport and of
the Map referred to therein have been deposited at the First Stop Reception, Town
Hall, Pinstone Street, Sheffield S1 2HH; at the Highways Information and Orders Office,
Howden House, 1 Union Street, Sheffield S1 2SH; and at the Enquiry Office, Sheffield
Design and Property, 2-10 Carbrook Hall Road, Sheffield S9 2DB; and may be seen there
at all reasonable hours.
4. The Order as confirmed becomes operative on the date on which this notice is first
published; but a person aggrieved by the Order may, by application to the High Court
within 6 weeks from that date, question its validity on the grounds:
(i) that the authorisation granted by the Order is not empowered to be granted; or
(ii) that there has been a failure to comply with any relevant statutory requirement
relating to the Order.
