WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991, SCHEDULE 10 (AS AMENDED BY THE ENVIRONMENT ACT 1995)
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 88

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Schedule 10 of the above Act that an application has been made to the Environment Agency by Severn Trent Water Limited for consent to discharge sewage in an emergency to the Stoke Brook, a tributary of the River Tern at National Grid Reference SJ 6506 2949 from Stoke Heath Sewage Treatment Works inlet pumping station located at Stoke Heath Sewage Treatment Works, Stoke Heath, Shropshire. The application states that the proposed pumping station will contain the following facilities designed to minimise the frequency, duration and effect of the discharges: (a) a 24-hour response telemetry alarm system shall be provided and maintained to give notification of failure or breakdown of the pumping station. (b) the duty pump shall be maintained in good working order and at least one standby pump shall be provided and maintained. (c) storage capacity equivalent to at least 1 to 2 hours at the dry weather flow rate shall be provided at the pumping station. (d) a tanker access facility at an appropriate location shall be provided and maintained to enable removal of sewage by tanker when necessary. Please note that any consent granted as a result of this application will require the applicant to install all the above facilities. Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Team Leader—Water Quality Consenting at the Agency’s offices at Hafren House, Welshpool Road, Shelton, Shrewsbury SY3 8BB, during the period 4 July 2002 to 15 August 2002 inclusive quoting Ref WA/US/91604. The Environment Agency is committed to maintaining and, where possible, improving water quality. If, after full consideration of this application and any representation made by interested parties it is decided that consent can be granted, then conditions will be imposed to ensure that the effluent receives treatment before discharge to the receiving waters so that the above aims are met. A copy of the application may be inspected, free of charge, during normal office hours at the Agency’s offices at the above address. V J Wilson, on behalf of the Environment Agency 4 July 2002.
