NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A LICENCE TO ABSTRACT WATER
Notice is hereby given that an application is being made to the Environment Agency
by Severn Trent Water Limited of 2297 Coventry Road, Birmingham B26 3PU, for a new
licence at Short Heath, Birmingham (at grid Ref. SP 0941 9262) to abstract water from
underground strata, for river transfer. The previous licence at Short Heath (Licence
Number 03/28/10/039) expired on 31st August 2000.
Previous Licence Details
The previous licence for “local” public supply had a maximum daily abstraction limit
of 10 mega litres per day (10 million litres per day), with an annual limit of 2,920
mega litres. It was also specified that not more than 2 mega litres per day, in any
one day should be abstracted for compensation discharge purposes.
Proposed Licence Details
The purpose of the new licence will be to enable the transfer of groundwater to the
River Tame for subsequent reabstraction, using the existing abstraction licence at
Acre Lane, Shardlow, near Derby (Licence Number 03/28/36/173) on the River Trent (at
grid Ref. SK 4406 3002).
The proposed Birmingham Groundwater licence is for 2,000 mega litres per year with
daily abstracted quantities not exceeding 10 mega litres per day. Abstraction will
take place during summer months, in severe drought periods.
A copy of the application and any maps, plans or other documents submitted with it
may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours, at the offices of Severn
Trent Water Ltd at Waterworks Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, during the period beginning
on 21st May 2001 and ending on 21st June 2001.
Any person who wishes to make representations about the application should do so
in writing to the Area Flood Defence and Water Resources Manager, Environment Agency,
Upper Trent Area, Sentinel House, Wellington Crescent, Fradley Park, Lichfield, Staffordshire
WS13 8RR, before the end of the said period.
