PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990

Notice is hereby given that the St. Edmundsbury Borough Council (“the Council”), as the local planning authority, and in pursuance of the power conferred on them by section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 (“the Act”) have on, 1st February 2000, designated a Conservation Area for the parish of Stanton.
The boundary is as follows:

The Conservation Area starts on Old Bury Road following the western boundary of Green Court House. It turns east along its rear boundary then north along the side boundary of Church View. It then turns east and follows the property boundaries to Duke Street. Crossing Duke Street it follows the front and side boundary of Landbeach House and rear and side boundary of Lilac Cottage to join the rear boundary of Foundry House and the rear and side boundary of Nonsuch House, rejoining the Old Bury Road. It then follows the northern side of the road and crosses it to meet the northern-most corner of the garden of 7 The Knowle and then runs along the front boundary 7 and 8 The Knowle. It then crosses Upthorpe Road running around the garden boundary of Knowle Lodge to Meadow Court. It then follows the north-western side of Meadow Court returning south along the rear boundaries of the properties between the Cock Inn and 6 The Street, returning to The Street along the northern boundary to 1 Angel Close. It follows the eastern side of The Street then turns east along the side boundary of Street Farmhouse then south along its rear boundary to The Beeches. It then runs along the southern boundary of The Beeches then south along the rear boundaries of Grundle House, Croft Bungalow, Grundle Bungalow and the tennis court. It then runs west, crossing The Grundle, and follows the southern side of Park Farm Drive to Wyken Road. Crossing Wyken Road, the boundary then runs along the southern boundary of The Gables, then north to the rear of Whispers, Beech Cottage and Ivy Cottage until it meets the southern boundary of the Stanton County Primary school grounds. It follows the school boundary west, north and west to meet Bury Lane. It then runs along the south-eastern side of Bury Lane for a short stretch before crossing it and following its north western side to join The Street. It follows the western side of The Street to Brook House, then west along its southern boundary before running north to meet the south-west corner of the churchyard of All Saint’s Church. It then follows the rear and side boundary of the church rooms, to rejoin Old Bury Road. It follows the southern edge of Old Bury Road and crosses it to meet the western boundary of Green Court House.

The effectof this designation is that the provisions of the Act (and all other applicable legislation) shall apply to all of the land now contained within the boundary of the Conservation Area.
A plan showing the boundary of the new Conservation Area may be inspected, free of charge, at St. Edmundsbury House, Western Way, Bury St. Edmunds (or at the Borough Offices, Angel Hill, Bury St. Edmunds until 27th April 2001) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., on Mondays to Thursdays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
