PROPOSED INTRODUCTIONS OF GOODS VEHICLE LOADING BAYS—GEORGE STREET

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Croydon propose to make the Croydon (Goods Vehicles) (Free Parking Places) (No. 2) 1991 (Amendment No. B37) Order 2000 under sections 6 and 124 of, and Part IV of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984 as amended by the Local Government Act, 1985. The general effect of the Order will be: (a) to designate free parking places in George Street (West), Croydon, as specified in the Schedule to this notice; (b) to provide that the parking places would be in operation at any time throughout the week; (c) to specify that the use of the parking places would be restricted to goods vehicles only for the purpose of loading or unloading goods or delivering or collecting goods from premises adjacent to the parking places; (d) to restrict to 30 minutes any one period of waiting in the parking places and to prohibit and return to the same parking places of the same vehicle for a period of one hour; (e) to provide that the parking places may be suspended when necessary to facilitate the carrying out of certain functions, such as building or street works, furniture removals, funerals etc. The restrictions on the use of the parking places will not apply to certain vehicles viz., to police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles, to broken down vehicles and those being used in connection with building and street works or for the collection or delivery of postal packets etc. A copy of the proposed Order, of the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order, and of a map which indicates the length of road to which the proposed Order relates, can be inspected until the last day of a period of 6 weeks beginning with the date on which the Order is made or, as the case may be, the Council decides not to make the Order, during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at the Enquiry Counter, “One Stop” Facility, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey. Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Order Making Section, Public Services & Works Department, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon CR9 3RN, quoting Ref. T&P/PS/JAA/7/Z37 by 13th September 2000. The Councillors for this Ward are Bob Coatman, Pat Knight and Michael Wunn. The proposed Order is intended to extend the existing limited time goods vehicle loading bays in George Street (West) so that they operate “at any time” to facilitate delivering goods to premises within the street without causing an obstruction to traffic, especially to trams.
