THE LEWISHAM LOCAL ROAD (A20) RED ROUTE (BUS PRIORITY) TRAFFIC ORDER 2000

Notice is hereby given that Lewisham Council, in accordance with the provisions of section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), made the Traffic Order referred to above on 19th June 2000. The Order will come into force on 1st July 2000. The nature and effect of the Order will be to install as a permanent measure a length with-flow bus lane on the A20 Priority ‘Red’ Route at Lee High Road, north-east side, from the junction with Lee Park south-eastbound for approximately 275 metres, operating 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, prohibiting any vehicle from being in the bus lane during its operational hours unless a permitted or exempt vehicle, permitted vehicles being buses, taxis, dial-a-ride and pedal cycles. The Order will: (a) continue in force indefinitely the provisions of the Lewisham Local Road (A20) Red Route (Bus Lanes) (No. 2) Experimental Traffic Order 1999, in force since 8th February 1999, notice of the making of which was published on 27th January 1999, containing a statement that the Council would be considering in due course whether its provisions should be continued in force indefinitely; the Council, having so considered, has decided that they should be so continued; (b) revoke the Lewisham Local Road (A20) Red Route (Bus Priority) Traffic Order 1999 governing a bus lane and a ‘bus-only’ route also on the A20 at Lewisham High Street and reconsolidate its provisions with the above. Exemptions from the bus lane restrictions include: picking up and setting down passengers and loading or unloading if not otherwise prohibited and crossing the bus lane for access to adjacent roads or accessways. Exemptions from the bus lane and bus-only route restrictions include: Council and utility company vehicles engaged on certain duties, any vehicle avoiding an accident, emergency service vehicles and anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform. Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays at the office of Lewisham Highways Development, Silver Road Service Centre, Silver Road, Elmira Street, London S.E.13 (telephone 020-8314 8203), during a period of 6 weeks from the date the Order was made. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any requirement of that Act or of any Instrument or relevant regulation made under the Act has not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
