NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR AN ABSTRACTION LICENCE AND TO VARY LICENCES TO ABSTRACT WATER

Take notice that A & E G Heading Ltd, of 3 Station Road, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire PE16 6AG, are applying to the Environment Agency for the following water abstraction licences: 1. For a licence to abstract water from drains dykes or watercourses in the area of the Menea and Welney Internal Drainage Board at Carrolls Farm, Elderwood Farm, Colony Farm, Burgess Farm and Mill Farm in Manea and Welney parishes of Fenland district and the Borough of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk respectively. The water is for spray irrigation purposes at the following rates: 100 cubic metres per hour, 1,818.4 cubic metres per day and 45,460 cubic metres per year between April and September each year. The application is to replace licence serial no. 6/33/52/S/4 which expired at the end of September 1999 and to add additional land with abstraction at Deer Lodge, Manea and Mill Farm, Welney with a further additional length of drain for abstraction between National Grid References TL 5113 9150 and TL 4965 9262. 2. To vary licence serial no. 6/33/52/S/166 for the abstraction of water from a drain at Welney, Norfolk, at National Grid Reference TL 516 928 to fill a winter storage reservoir between 1st November in any year and the last day of February in the year following and subsequent spray irrigation at Elderwood Farm, Colony Farm, Manea, Fenland district, Cambridgeshire and at Burgess Farm and Mill Farm, Welney Borough of Kings Lynn and West Norfolk, Norfolk. The variation is to add additional parcels of land at Mill Farm, Welney, Norfolk and north of Crane Farm, at Deer Lodge and Carrolls Farm, all at Manea, Cambridgeshire. To also transfer water from the reservoir at National Grid Reference TL 516 928 into a drain of the Menea and Welney Internal Drainage Board for subsequent reabstraction from drains at Carrolls Farm, Manea, after release of compensatory discharge and to increase the rates of abstraction to 120 cubic metres per hour and 2,880 cubic metres per day with no increase in the annual quantity. The water is for spray irrigation purposes between April and September each year. 3. To vary licence serial no. 6/33/53/13/9 for the abstraction of water from Fentons Lode and drains in the Warboys, Somersham and Pidley Drainage Board area at Colne Fen Farm, Fryers Farm, Gray’s Farm, High Fen Farm, Golden Drop Farm and Tick Farm, Somersham, Huntingdon district, Cambridgeshire between April and September each year for spray irrigation purposes. The variation is to amalgamate with licence serial no. 6/33/52/S/165 for the abstraction of water from drains at Slyers Farm, Somersham. To also add land with abstraction points from Fentons Lode and drains at Dovecote Farm, Pidley cum Fenton and Somersham, all in the Warboys, Somersham and Pidley Drainage Board area, Huntingdon district, Cambridgeshire. The amalgamated rates of abstraction to be 128.2 cubic metres per hour, 1,477.4 cubic metres per day and 43,090 cubic metres per year provided always that the aggregated quantities do not exceed 196.4 cubic metres per hour, 2,159.3 cubic metres per day and 49,909 cubic metres per year. Licence no. 6/33/52/S/165 will be revoked upon issue of this application. 4. To vary licence serial no. 6/33/53/S/623 for the abstraction of water from a drain at Colne Fen Farm, Somersham, to fill a winter storage reservoir between 1st November in any year and the last day of February in the year following and for subsequent spray irrigation at Fryers Farm, Grays Farm and High Fen Farm, Somersham, all in Huntingdon district, Cambridgeshire. The variation is to add an additional length of drain with an abstraction point at National Grid Reference TL 3750 8248 and to also add a second abstraction point from Fentons Lode at National Grid Reference TL 3598 8302 to fill the winter storage reservoir. To also increase the rates of abstraction to 100 cubic metres per hour and 2,400 cubic metres per day with no increase in the annual quantity. To also add land at Slyers Farm, Somersham and at Dovecote Farm, Pidley cum Fenton and Somersham, all in the Warboys, Somersham and Pidley Drainage Board area, Huntingdon district, Cambridgeshire. A copy of the applications and any maps, plans or other documents submitted may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at 3 Station Road, Chatteris, Cambridgeshire PE16 6AG and at Burgess Farm, Fifty Road, Christchurch, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire PE14 9TA, between 9th February and 8th March 2000.
