PROPOSED ONE-WAY WORKINGS WITH CONTRA-FLOW CYCLE LANES, CLARENDON ROAD, FAIRHOLME ROAD, GREENSIDE ROAD, MIDHURST AVENUE AND PEMDEVON ROAD

1. Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Croydon propose to make the Croydon (Prescribed Routes) (No. M32) Traffic Order 1999, under section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Local Government Act 1985. 2. The general effect of the Order will be to introduce one-way workings in those lengths of streets specified in the Schedule to this notice, with an exemption to apply to pedal cycles proceeding within the limits of a contra-flow cycle lane or to an emergency service vehicle. 3. The prohibition and restriction referred to in paragraph 2 above will not apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police officer in uniform or anything done in accordance with any restriction or requirement indicated by traffic signs placed on a highway by or on behalf of the Metropolitan Police. 4. A copy of the proposed Order, of the Council’s statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order and of a map indicating the lengths of roads to which the proposed Order relates can be inspected for a period of 21 days from the date of this notice during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at the “One Stop” Facility, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey. 5. Further information may be obtained by telephoning the Traffic and Parking Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, on 0181-686 4433, extension 3881. 6. Persons desiring to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Order Making Section, Public Services and Works Department, London Borough of Croydon, Taberner House, Park Lane, Croydon, Surrey, quoting Ref. T&P/PS/JAA/31U/T32 within the aforesaid 21 days. 7. The Councillors for this ward are Stuart Collins, Rod Matlock and Peter Spalding. 8. The Order is intended to introduce sections of one-way workings in Clarendon Road, Fairholme Road, Greenside Road, Midhurst Avenue and Pemdevon Road with an exemption for pedal cyclists proceeding within the limits of a contra-flow cycle lane. These sections of one-way workings would be implemented to improve road safety and the amenity of the local environment by discouraging through traffic in these relatively narrow residential roads. This would reduce traffic congestion and opposing vehicle flow conflict in these roads. K.
