NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT FOR THE PURPOSES OF SECTION 88
Notice is hereby given in accordance with Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991, that the following applications have been made to the Environment Agency, South West Region. South West Water Services Ltd., have applied for consent to discharge from the proposed new treatment works (STW) at Brokenbury Quarry, Churston. The proposed scheme comprises the transfer of flows from the Torquay, Paignton and Brixham catchments to the new STW. The proposed new STW at Brokenbury Quarry will be a secondary treatment system that will provide preliminary, primary, secondary biological treatment with tertiary disinfection by Ultraviolet light before discharge to the exsiting Sharkham Point outfall which is to be extended. The treated sewage effluent discharge will replace the two existing crude sewage discharges at Hope’s Nose and Sharkham Point. The Ilsham Valley Pumping Station will be intercepting Torquay sewage and pumping it to the new STW at Brokenbury Quarry for treatment. Occassional discharges during storm or emergency conditions will be made through the existing Hope’s Nose outfall. Discharge will only occur during periods of heavy rainfall or unavoidable mechanical or electrical breakdown of the Pumping Station. Reference: 200976.
