THE CITY OF WESTMINSTER (PRESCRIBED ROUTES) (NO. 2) EXPERIMENTAL TRAFFIC ORDER 1999

Notice is hereby given that the Westminster City Council, on 17th February 1999, made the above-mentioned Order, under section 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended by the Local Government Act 1985. The general effect of the Order will be to: (a) impose one-way working for vehicles in that length of Bryanston Street, which lies between Great Cumberland Place and Edgware Road, in a south-westerly direction; (b) prohibit left turn by vehicles from Edgware Road into Old Marylebone Road; (c) compel the left turn by vehicle proceeding in Bryanston Street and Stourcliffe Street into Edgware Road and Stourcliffe Street. The Order provides that subject to the provisions of section 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Council’s Acting Director of Environment and Planning for the time being, or some person authorised in that behalf by him, may, if it appears to him or that person essential: (a) in the interest of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic; (b) in the interest of providing suitable and adequate parking facilities on the highway; or (c) for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by this Order runs; modify or suspend the Order or any provision contained therein. A copy of the Order, which will come into force on 28th February 1999, of other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order, can be inspected, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, from 28th February 1999 until such time as the Order ceases to have effect, at Parkman Ltd., Third Floor, Mountbarrow House, 6-20 Elizabeth Street, London SW1W 9RB. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may make application for the purpose to the High Court by 31st March 1999. If the provisions of the Order continue in force for a period of not less than 6 months, the Council will consider in due course whether the provisions of the Order should be reproduced and continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order made under section 6 of the said Act of 1984. Anyone who wishes to object to the making of an Order under section 6 of the said Act of 1984 for the purpose of such reproduction and continuation in force may, between 28th February 1999 and 27th August 1999, send a statement in writing of their objection and grounds thereof to the Council’s Agents, Parkman Ltd., Third Floor, Mountbarrow House, 6-20 Elizabeth Street, London SW1W 9RB, quoting Ref. 22456/WES1302/ORD/1695/AA.
