The Crichel Down Rules Trace of Former Owners

The former RAF Kemble Airfield has been declared surplus to requirements and is being put forward for disposal. The Crichel Down Rules require Government Departments, under certain circumstances, to offer back surplus land to the former owner or successor in title. It is now necessary to trace the former owners or successors.   The site was acquired between 1937 and 1957 under 19 Conveyances and one Deed of Exchange. The following former owners, or successors in title, are invited to register their interest:    1. The Hon. Michael John William Biddulph, of Bowling Green Cottage, Ledbury, Hereford (Conveyance dated 13th January 1937).    4. & 5. Stanley Holborow Clark, of Culkerton Farm, Rodmarton, Gloucestershire (Conveyances dated 5th February 1937 and 27th August 1956).    6. & 7. George William Baillie-Lane, of Little Mead, Cirencester, Gloucestershire (Conveyances dated 5th March 1937 and 25th July 1938).    8. & 9. Thomas Holdsworth Sampson, of Chelworth Manor, Crudwell, Malmesbury, Wiltshire (Conveyances dated 26th April 1937 and 1st August 1940).   10. Arthur Reginald Wilkins, of Ballingers Farm, Chedworth, Gloucestershire (Conveyance dated 27th May 1940).   11. George William Baillie-Lane, of Field Barn, Edgeworth, Gloucestershire (Conveyance dated 29th May 1940).   12. The Hon. Allen Algernon Bathurst (Lord Apsley) deceased, of Cirencester Park, Cirencester, Gloucestershire (Conveyance dated 11th October 1956).   20. S J Phillips and Sons (Kemble) Limited, of The Limes, Kemble, Gloucestershire (Conveyance dated 18th October 1957).   The former owners or, if deceased, their successors should register their interest, either in person or through their solicitors, by writing, within two months of this date of notice, to the Defence Estates Organisation South West, Disposals Group, High Street, Durrington, Salisbury, Wiltshire SP4 8AF, quoting Ref. D/CDU/15/207. Successors of former owners should state their relationship to the original vendor.
