ENVIRONMENT AGENCY—SOUTHERN REGION
Water Resources Act 1991 As amended by the Environment Act 1995
Notice of application for consent in pursuance of section 88 and Schedule 10
Notice is hereby given, in accordance with section 88 and Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991, that an application, Ref. No. A840/K98, has been made to the Environment Agency (South Region) by Southern Water Services Ltd. for consent to discharge screened storm sewage to Faversham Creek at National Grid Reference TR 0211 6155, from Gordon Square Stormwater Pumping Station, Faversham. The application states that a discharge of screened storm sewage will take place in an emergency caused by total power failure or mechanical failure, or during a storm event when the flow to the pumping station exceeds 300 litres per second and the storage capacity of the wet well and upstream sewers is exceeded. The pumping station will be equipped with telemetred alarms for power failure and mechanical failure (connected to a control room manned 24 hours a day), standby pumps and a socket for a mobile generator. These proposals are part of a scheme to eliminate, in all but extreme conditions, the discharge of storm sewage to the Cooksditch Stream. Any person wishing to make representations about the application should do so in writing to the Area Environment Planning Manager, Environment Agency, Orchard House, Endeavour Park, London Road, Addington, West Malling, Kent ME19 5SH, not later than 31st July 1998, quoting application A840/K/9. A copy of the application may be inspected, free of charge, at the above address at all reasonable hours. M. I. Davies, Regional Solicitor, Environment Agency, Southern Region.
