Notice of application for, and to vary, a licence to abstract water
Take notice that S. D. Metcalfe, of Low House Farm, Aldborough, Boroughbridge, York
YO5 9HD, is applying to the Environment Agency to vary licence serial number 2/27/22/503
which authorises the abstraction of water for spray irrigation, from a borehole in
the Sherwood Sandstone at SE 4276 6503 at Low House Farm, in the parish of Boroughbridge,
Harrogate Borough of North Yorkshire.
The variation being applied for is to increase the quantity of water authorised
to be abstracted between March and September each year to 42,000 cubic metres and
to amend the purpose of abstraction to include river augmentation.
Notice is further given that application is also being made for a licence to abstract
water from the River Ure at National Grid Reference SE 458 641 at Aldwark, in the
Parish of Aldwark, Hambleton District of North Yorkshire.
The proposal is to abstract water at the following rates: 50 cubic metres per hour,
1,000 cubic metres per day, 12,200 cubic metres between 1st March and 30th September
each year.
The water will be used for the spray irrigation of arable crops on land at Rice
Lane, Aldwark, Alne, York. Water will only be abstracted from the river when the river
is fully compensated with water abstracted under the above detailed licence.
A copy of this application and any map, plan and other documents submitted with
it may be inspected, free of charge, at all reasonable hours at Low House Farm, Aldborough,
Boroughbridge, between 16th April and 23rd May 1998.
Any person who wishes to make representations about the applications should do
so in writing to the Environment Agency, Licensing Section, Coverdale House, Aviator
Court, Clifton Moor, York YO30 4GZ, before the end of the said period.
