JUSTIFICATION OF PRACTICES INVOLVING IONISING RADIATION REGULATIONS 2004

NOTICE OF THE DETERMINATION THAT CERTAIN URANIUM ENRICHMENT PRACTICES ARE EXISTING PRACTICES

The Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform wishes to announce that he has determined that the applications by Urenco Capenhurst Ltd for the enrichment of uranium using recycled uranium and the enrichment of uranium to higher assays by the centrifuge process, has been determined as forming part of the existing practice of enrichment of uranium using the centrifuge process, set out under the category No1 of Annex 3 to the Defra Guidance on the Justification of Practices Involving Ionising Radiation Regulations 2004 – SI 2004 No 1769.

The Justifying Authority’s statement and the consultation report on which it is based is publicly available on the Defra website, (www.defra.gov.uk/radioactivity/government/legislation/justification.htm) together with the guidance by Defra on the Regulations.
