POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT 1999
POLLUTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL (SCOTLAND) REGULATIONS 2000

In accordance with paragraph 5 of Schedule 4 to the above Regulations, Notice is hereby given that application has been made to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) for a permit under regulation 7 of the Regulations by Shanks Waste Services Ltd in respect of the activities being carried out namely the disposal of more than 50 tonnes of municipal (non-hazardous) waste per day in an installation at Lochar Moss, Dumfries. The installation works by using the biodegradable part of the waste as a source of energy to promote biological fermentation. This makes it easier for recyclable material to be extracted and stabilises the remaining waste by reducing the moisture content.

The application contains a description of any foreseeable significant effects of emissions from the installation on the environment.

The application may be inspected, free of charge, at SEPA, 5 Redwood Crescent, Peel Park, East Kilbride, G74 5PP between the hours of 09:30 and 16:30 Monday to Friday. Please quote reference No PPC/W/20027.

Written representation concerning the application may be made to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency at the above address, or sent to e-mail address ppc.applications@sepa.org.uk and if received within 28 days of this Notice, will be taken into consideration in determining the application. Any such representations made by any person will be entered in a public register unless that person requests in writing that they should not be so entered. Where such a request is made there will be included in the register a statement indicating that representation have been made which have been the subject of such a request.
