Students Awards (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007

Notice is hereby given that the Department for Employment and Learning in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 50 (1) and (2) and 134 (1) of the Education and Libraries (Northern Ireland) Order 1986 and now vested in it has made a Statutory Rule entitled “Students Awards (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2007”.

This Rule amends the Students Awards Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 by updating the levels of financial support in the 2007/08 academic year, for those higher education students who commenced their courses prior to1998.

This Rule is also amended to comply with Article 9 of Decision No 1/80 of the Association Council of 19 September 1980 on the development of the Association between the European Community and Turkey. It was held that Article 9 has direct effect in the Member States of the EC and as such guarantees the children of Turkish workers a non-discriminatory right of access to vocational training and education grants provided in connection with such training.
