A1 Junction Improvements

The Department for Regional Development having complied with Article 67A(7) of the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 hereby gives notice in accordance with the provisions of Article 67A(8) and (9) of its intention to proceed with proposed grade separated junctions listed below, as part of the Department’s commitment to improve the A1 from

Sprucefield to the border.

A. T4 (A1) Banbridge By-Pass and A26 Dromore Road, Banbridge Grade Separated Junction (in the townlands of Ballydown and Ballyvally, County Down); the general effect of which will be to provide a grade separated junction via the construction of an overbridge and associated connecting roads.
B. T4 (A1) Dromore By-Pass and B2 Banbridge Road, Dromore Grade Separated Junction (in the townlands of Quilly and Balleny, County Down); the general effect of which will be to provide a grade separated junction via the construction of an underpass and associated connecting roads.
C. T4 (A1) Hillsborough Road and B177 Dromore Road, Hillsborough Grade Separated Junction (in the townlands of Hillsborough and Drumatihugh, County Down); the general effect of which will be to provide a grade separated junction via the construction of an overbridge and associated connecting roads.
D. T4 (A1) Newry Road and B3 Dublin Road/Grovehill Road, Loughbrickland Grade Separated Junction (in the townlands of Greenan and Drumnahare, County Down); the general effect of which will be to provide a grade separated junction via the construction of an underpass and associated connecting roads.

In addition to earthworks and drainage, landscaping will be carried out to improve the appearance of the junctions and lessen the visual impact of the projects.

Documents for each proposal containing-

1. the contents of the Department’s decision;
2. the main reasons and considerations on which the decision is based;
3. a description of the main measures to avoid and, if possible, offset the major adverse effects of the project; and
4. the Inspector’s Report on an Inquiry held into proposals B and C

may be inspected by any person, free of charge, at all reasonable times during the period from 8 November to 22 December 2006 at the offices of the:
