WEIGHTS AND MEASURES (NORTHERN IRELAND) ORDER 1981

The Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment has made a Statutory Rule entitled–

The Weighing Equipment (Non-automatic Weighing Machines) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 (S.R. 2006 No. 5).

These Regulations, which come into operation on 13 February 2006, are made under Articles 9(1) and (3), 10(6) and 13(1) of the Weights and Measures (Northern Ireland) Order 1981. These Regulations consolidate with minor amendments the Weighing Equipment (Non-automatic Weighing Machines) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1991 (S.R. 1991 No. 266) (as amended). The Regulations continue to prescribe non automatic weighing machines for the purposes of Article 9(1) of the Weights and Measures (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 (the “1981 Order”). The effect of prescription is to make it unlawful to use such machines for trade purposes unless they have been tested, passed as fit for such use and stamped by an inspector of weights and measures, or by an approved verifier under the terms of the 1981 Order as amended by the Weights and Measures (Amendment) Act 2000 (2000 c.5).

Copies of the Regulations may be purchased from the Stationery Office Bookshop, 16 Arthur Street, Belfast BT1 4GD.
