Department of the Environment

The Department of the Environment has made a Statutory Rule entitled The Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2005 (S.R. 2005 No. 270).

These Regulations, which come into operation on 2nd July 2005, amend the Public Service Vehicles (Conditions of Fitness, Equipment and Use) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 so as to require every vehicle licensed for public hire in the City of Belfast to have an effective means of communication between the passenger and the driver. Where there is a sliding window fitted in the partition between the driver’s seat and the passengers’ compartment, the maximum width of the window opening shall not exceed 11.5 centimetres.
