Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment

Notice is hereby given that the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, in exercise of powers under Articles 52 to 55 and 66(3) of the Energy (Northern Ireland) Order 2003, has made a Statutory Rule entitled the “Renewables Obligation Order (Northern Ireland) 2005”. The Rule will introduce a Renewables Obligation on electricity suppliers in Northern Ireland requiring them to provide evidence each year to the Northern Ireland Authority for Energy Regulation (NIAER) that a specified proportion of the electricity they supplied to customers has been sourced from renewable sources or to make a buy-out payment to NIAER that is proportionate to any shortfall in that obligation. The Rule will come into operation on 1 April 2005.
