TOWNLEY ROAD NEW – ‘ZEBRA’ PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK (WAITING AND LOADING RESTRICTIONS) (TOWNLEY ROAD) ORDER 2025

1. Southwark Council hereby GIVES NOTICE that on 31 July 2025 it has made the above Order under sections 6 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The effects of the Order, are in TOWNLEY ROAD (outside Alleyn’s School) and for the purpose of accommodating the new raised ‘zebra’ pedestrian crossing, to:-

(a) remove a total of 90 metres of existing ‘at any time’ waiting restrictions (double yellow lines ‘DYLs’) with contiguous 'any time' loading restrictions (double kerb blips ‘DKBs’) on both sides from a point 4 metres north-west of the common boundary of Nos. 23 and 24 Townley Road (as measured from the south-western kerb-line); and

(b) the following measures are an administrative exercise to change the Traffic Management Order data to match more closely what exists in the street, no physical changes will be made to the existing restrictions on the street in TOWNLEY ROAD at the following locations: (i) to add ‘DKBs’ on existing ‘DYLs’ on both sides north-west of the new raised zebra pedestrian crossing (15 metres on the north-east side and 3 metres on the south-west side) and (ii) extend existing ‘DKBs’ on existing ‘DYLs’ on both sides south-east of the new raised zebra pedestrian crossing (23 metres on the north-east side and 25 metres on the south-west side).

Notes: (1) ‘at any time’ means at all hours on every day of the week. (2) ‘DYLs’ refer to 'at any time' waiting restrictions and ‘DKBs’ refer to 'at any time' loading restrictions. (3) All measurements are in metres and are approximate.

3. Copies of the Order, which will come into force on 4 August 2025, and of all other relevant documents are available for inspection at Highways, Southwark Council, Environment, Sustainability & Leisure, 3rd floor hub 2, 160 Tooley Street, London SE1 2QH, by appointment only. 4. Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 or that any of the relevant requirements thereof or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
