TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990, SECTION 69 & 70

Notice is hereby given under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 Sections 69 & 70 that Mid Devon District Council has adopted the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan on the 18th December 2024, and boundary changes to the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area were confirmed. This followed public consultation on the document, on the 22nd July 2024.

The amendments are described below, and the extent of the land involved in the boundary changes are shown within the appendix of the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan, which can be viewed on the Council’s website.

The Grand Western Canal Conservation Area has been divided into four different areas, to reflect the different character and appearance of these areas.

Revisions to the Grand Western Canal Conservation Area include:

A. Removal of area of woodland to the north and south of the canal, adjacent to Manley Bridge.

B. Removal of agricultural land to the north of the canal, adjacent to Rock House.

C. Removal of Nos.16 and 16a Turnpike, Sampford Peverell.

D. Removal of Holbrook Farm and Nos.1 and 2 Quarry View, Burlescombe from the Conservation Area.

E. Removal of land south of canal, adjacent to Westcott Bridge and removal of an area of woodland to the north of Whipcott Bridge.
