DISRAELI WALK – IMPROVEMENT SCHEME

INTRODUCTION OF PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND SHARED PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE FACILITY

THE NEWHAM (PRESCRIBED ROUTE) (NO.*) TRAFFIC ORDER 202*

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Newham (‘the Council’) proposes to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 6 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The effect of the Order would be to prohibit motor vehicles from entering into or proceeding in Disraeli Walk (adjacent to Nos. 212 and 212c Upton Lane). Enforcement will be via CCTV. Exemptions apply to:

(a) pedal cycles;

(b) for the purpose of gaining access to premises;

(c) vehicles being used for;

(i) ambulance, fire brigade or police purposes;

(ii) in the service of the local authority for the purpose of collecting refuse or street cleansing;

(iii) in connection with the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction of the highway; or

(iv) in connection with the placing, maintenance, improvement, reconstruction or removal of any street furniture.

3. NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that the Council, in accordance with sections 65 and 66 of the Highways Act 1980 intends to convert, modify or recreate certain lengths of footway and carriageway space located in Disraeli Walk (between Upton Lane and Disraeli Road) to an improved shared facility for pedestrians and cyclists. These are proposed to improve accessibility with existing and new walkways / cycle links and networks along key routes.

4. Documents and plans giving more detailed particulars of the proposed Order and other measures can be made available during normal office hours on Monday to Friday by telephoning 020 3373 6415, by emailing traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk, or inspected (by prior appointment – please telephone the above number) at Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road E16 2QU, until six weeks after the date on which the Order is made or until the proposed Order is withdrawn, as appropriate.

6. All objections and other representations relating to the proposed Order and other measures must be made in writing and received by 19 February 2025. All objections must specify the grounds on which they are made. They should be sent to the Director of Highways, Parking & Transportation, London Borough of Newham, 3rd Floor West, Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road, London, E16 2QU or by email to traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk.

7. Under the requirements of current access to information legislation, any letter or e-mail sent to the Council in response to this Notice may be subject to publication or disclosure, or both, including communication to other persons affected.
