TEMPORARY TRAFFIC ORDER – VALLEY GARDENS PHASE 3
1. NOTICE is hereby given that Brighton & Hove City Council have on the 20/12/24 made an Order pursuant to powers in Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended which has the following effect:-
The following will be done in phases, and will only be in force as and when signed
a) The temporary closure of St James’s Street, at its junction with the Old Steine, for a distance of approximately 10 metres.
b) The temporary closure of Steine Street at its junction with the Old Steine, for a distance of approximately 20 metres.
c) During the closure of St James’s Street and Steine Street, it will be necessary to reverse the one-way order on Steine Street to maintain access.
d) The temporary overnight closures of the following roads: Castle Square, Old Steine, Pavilion Parade, Princes Street, Pavilion Street, St James’s Street, Edward Street, Marlborough Place, Marine Parade, Madeira Drive, Grand Junction Road, Steine Street, Charles Street, Manchester Street and Broad Street.
e) The temporary suspension of the one-way orders on Charles Street, Manchester Street and Broad Street.
f) The temporary suspension of the taxi rank on the east side of Old Steine, for its entire length.
g) The temporary suspension of the Loading bay on the east side of Old Steine.
h) The temporary suspension of the Motorcycle bay on the east side of Old Steine.
i) The temporary suspension of the Doctor’s bays on the east side of Old Steine, adjacent to the junction with Princes Street.
j) The temporary conversion of shared use parking bays to Doctor’s bays on the east side of Old Steine south of Princes Street.
k) The temporary conversion of shared use parking bays to Loading only bays on the east side of Old Steine south of Princes Street.
l) The temporary suspension of all shared use parking bays on the east side of Old Steine, adjacent to the junction with Princes Street.
m) The temporary suspension of the Disabled parking bays on the east side of Old Steine, adjacent to the junction with Princes Street.
n) The temporary closure of Princes Street, from outside property number 19, in a southerly direction to the junction of Old Steine.
o) The temporary closure of Pavilion Street, from the junction with Pavilion Parade in an easterly direction for a distance of approximately 20 metres.
p) During the closures of Princes Street and Pavilion Street, it will be necessary to suspend the one-way order on Princes Street for its entire length.
q) The temporary suspension of all the permit holder only bays on Pavilion Street.
r) The temporary suspension of the southbound bus lane on the east side of Old Steine.
s) The temporary suspension of the bus gate on the east side of Old Steine, opposite Steine Street.
t) The temporary suspension of the one-way order on the east side of Old Steine, to enable two-way traffic.
u) The temporary suspension of the northbound bus gate on the west side of Old Steine.
v) The temporary suspension of the bus gate on the west side of Old Steine, adjacent to the junction with Pool Valley.
w) The temporary suspension of all the paid parking bays on the south side of Old Steine.
x) The temporary suspension of the taxi rank on the south side of Old Steine, for its entire length.
y) The temporary suspension of the loading bay on the south side of Old Steine, adjacent to the junction with Pool Valley.
z) The temporary introduction of a replacement loading bay on Pool Valley.
aa) The temporary closure of Pool Valley at its junction with Old Steine.
bb) The temporary suspension of the motorcycle bay on the west side of Old Steine.
cc) The temporary suspension of the car club bays on the west side of Old Steine.
dd) The temporary suspension of the paid parking bays on the west side of Old Steine.
ee) The temporary suspension of the loading bay on the west side of Old Steine.
ff) The temporary suspension of the southbound cycle lane on the west side of Old Steine, to west of the war memorial.
gg) The temporary northbound closure of Old Steine, from north of junction with Castle Square until the point the road rejoins Old Steine southbound carriageway.
hh) The temporary closure of Steine Lane at its junction with Old Steine.
ii) The temporary suspension of the no-entry order from East Street onto Steine Lane, to maintain access.
jj) The temporary closure of The Avenue at its junction with the Old Steine.
kk) The temporary suspension of the cycle lane on Madeira Drive / Grand Junction Road.
ll) The temporary closure of the westbound exit lane from Madeira Drive.
2. The Order is necessary to allow contractors to carry out works relating to Valley Gardens Phase 3.
3. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and a signed diversion route will be in place for vehicular traffic where necessary.
4. This Order comes into force on 6th January 2025 for 2 years or until such sooner time as the works are completed, which is anticipated to be summer 2026.
