ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 15

THE M1 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 32 TO JUNCTION 35A)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway, in the Counties of South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire, to enable because construction of emergency areas and associated technology and advancing signing infrastructure works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Monday 27 November 2023 and will remain in force until the works are completed.

The effect of the Order will be, at times during the works, on Monday 27 November 2023 between 6am and 8pm, until completed, to:

(i) close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 31 to the entry slip road at Junction 32, a distance of 5260 metres;

(ii) close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 32 to the entry slip road at Junction 33, a distance of 6340 metres;

(iii) close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 33 to the entry slip road at Junction 34, a distance of 6210 metres;

(iv) close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 34 to the entry slip road at Junction 35, a distance of 6580 metres;

(iv) close the M1 northbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 35 to the entry slip road at Junction 36, a distance of 6030 metres;

(v) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 36 to the entry slip road at Junction 35a, a distance of 3050 metres;

(vi) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 36 to the entry slip road at Junction 35, a distance of 6030 metres;

(vii) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 35 to the entry slip road at Junction 34, a distance of 6580 metres; y

(viii) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the slip road at Junction 34 to the entry slip road at junction 33, a distance of 6210 metres;

(ix) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 33 to the entry slip road at Junction 32, a distance of 6200 metres;

(x) close the M1 southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 33 to the entry slip road at Junction 31, a distance of 8930 metres;

(xi) close the northbound entry slip road at Junction 31;

(xii) close the northbound exit and entry and southbound exit slip roads at Junction 32;

(xiii) close the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 33;

(xiv) close the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 34;

(xv) close the northbound and southbound entry and exit slip roads at Junction 35;

(xvi) close the northbound exit and southbound entry slip roads at Junction 35a;

(xvii) close the southbound entry slip road at Junction 36.

It will also be necessary, for 24 hours a day, at times during the works, to:

(i) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the M1 northbound carriageway from 2000 metres south of the entry slip road at Junction 32 to 800 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 35a, a distance of 18270 metres;

(ii) impose a temporary 50mph speed restriction on the southbound carriageway from 630 metres north of the exit slip road at Junction 36 to 830 metres south of the exit slip road at Junction 32, a distance of 19790 metres;

(iii) close the emergency refuge areas adjacent to the M1 carriageways as described above in (i) and (ii);

(iv) ban vehicles with an overall width exceeding 6’6” to enter or proceed in any specified lanes of the above lengths of carriageway as described in (i) and (ii);

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available.

Traffic management will be in force 24 hours a day and traffic signs will indicate the extent of the restrictions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or special forces vehicles) and prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works, to anyone engaged in the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes).
