THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (WORKINGTON ACCADEMY TO PARK END ROAD) (PROHIBITION OF WAITING) ORDER 2023

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No.09346363) intends to make the above-mentioned Order, under Sections 1(1), 2(1) and (2) and 4(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, on the A66 Trunk Road, in the Unitary Authority of Cumberland, in the County of Cumbria.

The effect of the Order, if made, would be to impose a prohibition of waiting on the westbound carriageway of the A66 Trunk Road, from a point 65 metres west of the nosing of the central island at Stainburn Roundabout, to a point 321 metres west of the same point.

Exceptions have been provided in the Order to enable a vehicle to be used:

• in connection with any building operation or demolition;

• in connection with winter maintenance operations;

• for the removal of any obstruction to traffic;

• for the maintenance, improvement or reconstruction of the road or services therein;

• by a local authority or water or sewage undertaker in pursuance of their respective statutory powers or duties;

• in connection with a safety camera partnership, National Highways contractor’s observations or Vehicle & Operator Service Agency purposes.

Or, when the person in control of the vehicle is required to stop: .

• by law;

• in order to avoid an accident;

• due to circumstances outside the person’s control;

• for gated vehicular access when vehicles accessing and egressing.

The waiting prohibition will not apply to vehicles being used for emergency purposes by the police, fire and rescue authority, ambulance services, traffic officer, or special-forces.

A copy of the Order and Notice, together with a Plan and a Statement of Reasons may be inspected at the Workington Academy, Stainburn Road, Workington, CA14 4EB, or at the Cumberland Council, Allerdale House, Workington, CA14 3YJ; making reference to this notice.

Any person wishing to object to the Secretary of State’s proposal to make this Order should send a written statement of their objection and the grounds thereof to the Director, Operations Division, National Highways Limited, Piccadilly Gate, Store Street, Manchester M1 2WD, making reference to this Notice, to be received no later than Thursday 13 July 2023.
