THE LEWISHAM (PRESCRIBED ROUTES) (SCHOOL STREETS) (NO 11/21) TRAFFIC ORDER 2023

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Lewisham Borough Council on 5th May 2023 made the above-mentioned Order under the powers the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended. The Orders will come into force on 7th May 2023:-

2. The general effect of the Order will be to make permanent the following experimental measures:-

(a) introduce new ‘pedestrian and cycle zones’ to restrict vehicle access in the vicinity of Brindishe Green Primary School, Dalmain Primary School, Forster Park Primary School, Hatcham Temple Grove Free School, John Ball Primary School, Kender Primary School, Marvels Lane Primary School, Rathfern Primary School, St. Bartholomew's Primary School and St. William of York Catholic Primary School, comprising the roads or parts of roads listed in column (2) of Schedule 1 to this Notice. These pedestrian and cycle zones will operate at the times listed in column (3) of Schedule 1 to this Notice;

(b) prohibit vehicles (other than pedal cycles proceeding by way of a ‘pedal cycle gap’ provided) proceeding in the roads or parts of roads listed in column (1) of Schedule 2 to this Notice from entering into the roads or parts of roads listed in column (2) of Schedule 2 to this Notice;

(c) reinstate two-way traffic working for pedal cycles in Beacon Road between its junctions with Hither Green Lane and Ardmere Road (that length remaining one-way north-eastbound for vehicles other than pedal cycles); and

3. All motor vehicles except exempt vehicles will be restricted from entering each pedestrian and cycle zone during their hours of operation. Any vehicle that is already within a pedestrian and cycle zone prior to its commencement of operation will be permitted to leave.

6. A pack of documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order can be collected for inspection between 9am – 5pm Mondays to Fridays at the office of the London Borough of Lewisham, Laurence House, 1 Catford Road, London SE6 4RU. Please go to the security office at the rear of the building and request a pack of documents for ‘School Streets – PTO 1003’. Alternatively, the Order and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order can be obtained by emailing a request to trafficorders@lewisham.gov.uk quoting reference ‘School Streets – PTO 1003’.

7. If any person wishes to question the validity of the Orders or of any of their provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the 1984 Act, or that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under that Act has not been complied with, that person may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order was made, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
