Road Traffic Acts
London Borough of Newham
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 AND HIGHWAYS ACT 1980
THE NEWHAM (PRESCRIBED ROUTE) (NO.*) TRAFFIC ORDER 202
PROPOSED EXEMPTION FOR PEDAL CYCLES IN FLEET ROAD
PROPOSED RAISED TABLE (ROAD HUMP) IN JENKINS LANE
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the London Borough of Newham proposes to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 6 and 124 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.
2. The general effect of the Order would be to revoke and re-enact the provisions of the Newham (Prescribed Route) (No. 1) Traffic Order 2012, which prohibited all vehicles except buses from using that length of Fleet Road which lies between a point 24.6 metres north of the northern kerb-line of Jenkins Lane, and a point 16.5 metres north-west of that point, (measured on the north-eastern side of Fleet Road), so that pedal cycles would also now be exempt from the prohibition.
3. NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that, in pursuance of the Highways Act 1980 (Section 90A-90F), the Council of the London Borough of Newham proposes to construct a raised table (road hump) in Jenkins Lane at a point 13 metres west of the extended south-western kerb-line of Fleet Road. It would be constructed and deployed in accordance with the Highways (Road Humps) Regulations 1999. It would have a length of 8 metres (including the ramps), be no more than 100 mm in height and the ramps on each side would have a gradient of 1 in 20.
4. Documents giving more detailed particulars of the proposed Order and raised table (road hump) can be made available during normal office hours on Monday to Friday by telephoning 020 3373 6415, by emailing traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk, or inspected at Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road E16 2QU, until six weeks after the date on which the Order is made or until the proposed Order is withdrawn, as appropriate.
5. Further information may be obtained by telephoning 020 3373 4282.
6. All objections and other representations relating to the proposed Order or to the proposal for the raised table (road hump) must be made in writing by 29 March 2023. All objections must specify the grounds on which they are made. They should be sent to the Interim Corporate Director of Environment & Sustainable Transport, London Borough of Newham, 3rd Floor West, Newham Dockside, 1000 Dockside Road, London, E16 2QU or by email to traffic.orders@newham.gov.uk.
7. Under the requirements of current access to information legislation, any letter or e-mail sent to the Council in response to this Notice may be subject to publication or disclosure, or both, including communication to other persons affected.
Dated 8 March 2023
JAMIE COOKE, Interim Corporate Director of Environment & Sustainable Transport
