THE HACKNEY (PRESCRIBED ROUTES AND 20 MPH SPEED LIMIT) (ASHENDEN ROAD, GORE ROAD, MEESON STREET AND UFTON ROAD) (EXPERIMENTAL) ORDER 2020

1. NOTICE is hereby given that on 29th May 2020, the London Borough of Hackney made an Experimental Traffic Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 ("the Act") and all other enabling powers..
2. The Experimental Traffic Order, which comes into operation on 11th June 2020 will close the following roads to all through traffic except for pedestrians, pedal cycles, LBH refuse vehicles only, and any vehicle being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes-
a) ASHENDEN ROAD – at the junction with Glyn Road.
b) GORE ROAD – at a point 5m west of the boundary wall of 106/107 Gore Road. No Entry into Gore Road from Lauriston Road.
c) MEESON STREET – at the junction with Kingsmead Way.
d) UFTON ROAD – at the junction with Downham Road.
3. These changes will be introduced for a trial period before consideration is given to whether the provisions of the Experimental Traffic Order (ETO) should be made permanent.
4. Section 10(2) of the RTRA 1984 provides that an ETO may include provision empowering a specified officer of the Council who made the order (or another person authorised by that specified officer) to modify or suspend the operation of the ETO or any provision of it if it appears to him or her to be essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic; in the interests of providing suitable and adequate on-street parking facilities; and/or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road traffic affected by the ETO runs.
5. Plans of the proposed measures can be requested for inspection, by emailing streetscene.consultations@hackney.gov.uk.
6. The experimental provisions can continue in force for a maximum of 18 months trial period before a permanent Order is considered. Within a period of 6 months from the coming into operation any person may object to the making of a permanent Order. Any objection should be done so in writing, giving the grounds on which it is made and be addressed to the Streetscene (Networks Team) emailed to streetscene.consultations@hackney.gov.uk Any comments in support of the Experimental Traffic Order are also invited during this period.
