THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT 1988 (REVIEWS OF SENTENCING) ORDER (NORTHERN IRELAND) 2016

Statutory Rule No. 2016/58 - The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Reviews of Sentencing) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016 - which is due to come into effect on 1 April 2016 will ensure that sentences can be referred to the Court of Appeal by the Director of Public Prosecutions if the sentence passed appears to him to be unduly lenient, for offences relating to:

inflicting bodily injury, with or without weapon, under section 20 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861; indecent photographs of children under Article 3 of the Protection of Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1978; possession of indecent photographs of child under Article 15 of the Criminal Justice (Evidence, Etc.) (Northern Ireland) Order 1988; prohibition on unauthorised or harmful deposit, treatment or disposal, etc., of waste under Article 4 of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997; slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour an offence under section 71 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009; unnecessary suffering of animals under section 4 of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011; and animal fighting under section 8(1) and 8(2) of the Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.
