WATER RESOURCES ACT 1991, SCHEDULE 10 (AS AMENDED BY THE ENVIRONMENT ACT 1995)
NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR CONSENT TO DISCHARGE
Notice is given, as required by Schedule 10 of the Water Resources Act 1991, that the following application has been made to the Environment Agency, South West Region. South West Water have applied for consent to discharge from a new sewage treatment works (STW) on land off Treloan Lane, Portscatho, Cornwall. Under an environmental improvement programme South West Water are proposing to build a new STW and two pumping stations to transfer the sewage to this STW. It is proposed that pumping station No 1 will have a storm and emergency overflow, whilst pumping station No 2 will have an emergency overflow. Emergency overflow operation only occurs as a result of mechanical or electrical failure and both pumping stations will be equipped with back-up pumping facilities. The proposed new STW will treat all flows arriving at the works through biological treatment. These proposals should result in an environmental improvement over the current situation, with the replacement of the two existing continuous crude sewage discharges with one biologically treated discharge.
