a Petition (the “Petition”) was on 4th October 1999 presented to Her Majesty’s High
Court of Justice by the above named Friends’ Provident Life Office (“FPLO”), for the
sanction of the Court under Part I of Schedule 2C to the Insurance Companies Act 1982
(“Schedule 2C to the Act”) to a Scheme (the “Scheme”) providing for the transfer to
FPLO of the whole of the long term business (as defined by section 1(i) of the Act)
of Friends Provident (London & Manchester) Assurance Limited (“FPLMA”) and for orders
making ancillary provisions in connection with the said transfer under paragraph 5
of Schedule 2C to the Act. Copies of the said Petition, the Scheme and a report by
an Independent Actuary pursuant to paragraph 2 of Schedule 2C to the Act may be inspected
at each of the offices specified in the Schedule hereto during normal business hours
for a period of 21 days from the publication of this notice. The Petition is directed
to be heard before the Judge at the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London WC2A on
29th November 1999. Any person (including any employee of FPLO or FPLMA) who claims
that he or she would be adversely affected by the Scheme may appear at the time of
the said hearing in person or by Counsel. Any person who intends so to appear, and
any policy holder of FPLO or FPLMA who dissents from the Scheme but does not intend
so to appear, should give not less than 2 clear days’ prior notice in writing of such
intention or dissent and of the reasons thereof to the Solicitors named below. Copies
of the documents referred to above will be furnished by such Solicitors to any person
requiring them prior to the making of an Order sanctioning the Scheme on payment of
