PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990
DESIGNATION OF FOREBRIDGE CONSERVATION AREA, STAFFORD

Stafford Borough Council, under powers conferred on them by section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, have designated a conservation area on land at Forebridge, Stafford, which is shown within the continuous black line on the designation map. In summary, the designated area includes those properties and their curtilages Nos. 1-7 Garden Place; Green Fields and Nos 16-22 Cramer Street, St. Joseph’s Convent Nursing Home, the County Architects Office; Green Hall, Nos. 12-18 and Nos. 113, 113 a and 113 b and St. Paul’s Church and Hall, Lichfield Road; Nos. 13-24 Wolverhampton Road; The Firs, St. Austin’s School House, St. Austin’s Roman Catholic CP School, St. Paul’s Church of England CP School, Nos. 1, 3-7, 8 a -8 c, 12 and 12 a, 14-17, 18 a and 18 b and 70-74 Garden Street; Flats 1-33 Lichfield Court, 1-4 Ovalside Court, School House, Stafford College Oval Annex, Nos. 2-5, 31, 32 a and 32 b, 33-36, 37 and 37 a, 38 and 39 The Oval. However, in the case of doubt the conservation area boundary shown on the designation map shall prevail. Also in the summary, the effect of the designation is that: (a) any person wishing to demolish the whole or part of a building, or cut down, top, lop or uproot any tree within the Conservation Area must (subject to certain exemptions) first apply for consent from the local planning authority or, in the case of trees, give the authority 6 weeks notice of the proposed action; (b) the local planning authority come under a duty to formulate and publish proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the area and to pay special attention to the desirability of preserving or enhancing the character appearance of the area; (c) any application for planning permission for development of land which would, in the opinion of the local planning authority, affect the character or appearance of the Conservation Area, must be given publicity under sections 67 and 75 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, and representations received in consequent taken into account in determining the application. (d) permitted development rights are more restricted than in other areas; (e) specific statutory duties are imposed on telecommunication operators; (f) the right to display certain types of illuminated advertisement without express consent is excluded; (g) grants and loans become payable under sections 77 to 80 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990. The designation map may be inspected at the Development Department, Civic Centre, Riverside, Stafford, during all reasonable hours.
