The Order will come into effect on 3rd September 1998. The general effects of the Order will be that no person shall cause or permit any goods or public service vehicle the maximum gross weight of which exceeds 7.5 tonnes to enter the areas defined on the Schedule to this notice. The Order provides that pursuant to section 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the Director of the Environmental Services Department of the London Borough of Merton or some person authorised in that behalf by him, may, if it appears to him or that person, essential in the interest of convenient, expeditious, and the safe movement of traffic or for preserving or improving the amenities of the area through which any road affected by the Order runs, modify or suspend the Order or provisions thereof. A copy of the Order, a plan identifying the area affected by the Order, and the Council’s statement of reasons for making the Order can be inspected during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive, at the London Borough of Merton, Main Reception, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, until 4th March 1999. The London Borough of Merton as the Order making authority will consider in due course whether the provisions of the proposed experimental Order should be continued in force indefinitely by means of an Order made under section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. If the experimental Order is eventually made, further comments will be invited as to whether the Council should make the provisions therein permanent. Any person desiring to object to such an experimental Order being made under section 9 of the Road Traffic Act 1984 should send a statement in writing of their objections and grounds thereof to the Head of Legal Services at the Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey SM4 5DX, no later than 4th March 1999, quoting Ref.
