Proposed Stopping-up of a Highway at Middleton Rochdale
Notice is hereby given that a local inquiry is to be held in connection with the proposal of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions to make an Order under section 247 of the above Act authorising the stopping-up of a length of Green Street, Middleton from its junction with Don Street, westwards to a point 15 metres east of its junction with Newport Street for its full width. If authorised the stopping-up would enable development consisting of the use of the public highway as access/loading area and erection of 2 metres high gates including closure of the carriageway and footpath of part of Green Street by British Vita plc, Green Street, Middleton, to be carried out subject to the granting of planning permission to British Vita Investments Ltd., by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions. The inquiry will be held at the Carroll Suite, Middleton Civic Hall, Fountain Street, Middleton on 2nd June 1998, at 10 a.m. by J. Nixon, an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for the purpose. The inquiry will also deal with: (a) Appeals to the Secretary of State under section 78 of the above Act by British Vita Investments Limited relating to planning applications to Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council. (b) An Order under section 247 of the above Act entitled The Stopping-up of Highways (Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale) (No. ) Order 19 ” which if authorised it would enable the same length of Green Street described above to be stopped up but excluding its existing footway on its northerly side.
