OPENCAST COAL ACT 1958
Rhydycar West Rights of Way Application 1998
Notice is hereby given that in connection with the reclamation works and working of
coal by opencast methods at the proposed Rhydycar West Site, Celtic Energy Ltd., intends
to apply under section 15 of the Opencast Coal Act 1958, to the Coal Authority for
an Order suspending non-vehicular rights of way as described in the Schedule below.
An application for planning permission for the reclamation and working of coal
at the site was submitted to Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council on 18th February
1998.
A copy of the Rights of way Application together with the map showing the rights
of way can be inspected at the following locations during normal office hours on Mondays
to Fridays, from Monday, 9th March 1998 to Friday, 3rd April 1998:
(i) Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council Planning Department, Ty Kier Hardy, Riverside
Walk, Avenue de Clichy, Merthyr Tydfil.
(ii) Celtic Energy Ltd. Offices, Heol Ty Aberaman, Aberaman, Aberdare.
Alternative rights of way for use by the pubic during the period for which the
Order will be in force will be made available as described in the Schedule below.

Schedule Part 1
Existing Rights-of-way to be suspended
That part of the claimed Bridleway in the community of Troed-y-rhiw, in the County
Borough of Merthyr Tydfil which extends to a length of 615 metres from a point on
the disused railway line (Grid Reference SO 0485 0440), approximately 570 metres north-east
of Waunwyllt farmstead to a point (Grid Reference SO 0650 0500), approximately 600
metres south-west of the Rhydycar Leisure Centre.
Part 2
Alternative Rights-of-way to be created
Alternative Right-of-way No. 1 (1998) which commences from a point on the formation
of the disused railway line (Grid Reference SO 0485 0440), approximately 570 metres
east of Waunwyllt farmstead and extends for a distance of 100 metres to a point (Grid
Reference SO 0492 0470), approximately 650 metres north-east of Waunwyllt.
